Founded by Lord Charles Somerset in 1825, Somerset East is a small town located on the Blue Crane Route of the Eastern Cape. The Blue Crane Route follows the Route 63 road through Pearston, Somerset East to Cookhouse.
Lying at the base of the Boschberg Mountains Somerset East has a number of hiking and walking trails and is an ideal bird-watching destination. The town is known for its provincial heritage buildings and spectacular natural environment.
